Meet the artist
I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t coloring or painting…
The truth is, I love paint - the buttery feel on the canvas , I love when the “magic” happens, combinations of colors and shapes come alive.
I am the magician - pulling images off my palette onto the canvas.
When I was little my parents noticed I was coloring the trees outside grey! They asked me why they weren’t brown, and I told them to look outside.
I’ve always been fascinated with realistic images…and later photorealism.
Having always been enrolled in art classes from a child, the artist found herself decorating bulletin boards in elementary school, even painting scenery for all the school plays, which continued with her own children. Summers led to specialized art camps, always with an eye to the exacting details of an image.
I loved sculpting, pen and ink, crafting...anything I could create with.
High school was spent with all her electives in the art department. It was in high school that she found her love of oil paint, after experimenting with many different media.
A good student, she received a regents scholarship. Wanting to go to an art school, her parents convinced her that she was far too social to walk "the lonely" life of an artist. She therefore majored in Fine Art and Psychology with a passion for art history.
I discovered that creating art does not have to be a solitary pursuit and can be enjoyed in a studio with other artists.
Always a student, after college the artist continued to study life drawing at the "The Art Students League" in NYC with Barbara Adrian. An accomplished and acclaimed artist, Adrian was an avid student and assistant to Reginald Marsh. She believed in the importance of good drawing and the techniques of the Old Masters. Schuss continues to hold herself to these high standards today! Art is not created in a vacuum, There is a long history that has led us to this moment . Warhol could accurately draw a still life before he ever created his first soup can.
I continue to paint with talented and inspiring artists today.
